Harding stands tall for Wild, but Devils prevail in the end, 2-1

The Minnesota Wild demonstrated their depth in goal with Josh Harding, but were unable to solve Marty Brodeur and the Devils in a 2-1 New Jersey win.

A tight game eventually resulted in a desperate overtime struggle, but the Devils prevailed in the end.

Devils-Pens rematch ends in defeat

Crosby and Malkin did the most damage as the Penguins bounced back from their previous defeat to take the second in the three game series by a score of 4 to 2.

Devils beat defending champion Penguins 3-1

A solid 60 minutes of play resulted in victory for Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1.

Devils hang on to win 3-2 versus Anaheim Ducks

Putting aside the one-goal losses they opened their season with, the Devils got themselves their first win of the season against the Ducks.

A big first period ended with the Devils taking a 3-1 lead into the locker room, the third goal coming from a successful conversion on a penalty shot. That goal would turn out to be the winner, with the Ducks potting one more, but not managing to score the equalizer, despite pulling goalie Jonas Hiller with less than a minute left in the third.

After the game, the Devils announced a trade had been finalized between the two teams, with Rob Niedermayer rejoining his brother in Anaheim, and the Devils enlisting the services of Evgeny Artuykin. Coach Shaver also revised his lineup for the next game, activating Patrik Elias, Paul Martin, and Dainus Zubrus off of injured reserve. All 3 missed the opening games of the season recovering from nagging injuries.

Goaltender duel ends in second loss for Devils

Final score: Vancouver 1, New Jersey 0 (OT)

Despite the heroics of Marty Brodeur, the Devils lost the second game in a back-to-back series to the Vancouver Canucks. The Devils were shut out, even as Brodeur made 29 saves in the effort. Unfortunately, the offense never materialized.

The Devils, despite being heavily outshot, managed to remain competitive, keeping the score at 0-0 for all 3 periods, and most of the overtime contest. However, the Canucks capitalized on a defensive error on the part of the Devils, with Christian Erhoff scoring with less than 20 seconds remaining before the game would have gone to a shootout.

The loss marks the second in a row for the Devils, who are only two games into their season.

Brodeur shines, but Devils fall short to the revamped Canucks

Final score: Vancouver 2, New Jersey 1

Ilya Kovalchuck didn't take too long to adjust to his new team. With a goal and an assist, the former Thrasher was instrumental in sinking the Devils in their first game of the season.

The Devils got on the scoreboard first, with Rob Niedermayer potting his first of the season, banking a one-timer off of Luongo into the net. The Canucks responded quickly, scoring on the very next shot past a desperate Brodeur.

The 1-1 tie persisted through the third period, leading to the possibility of an overtime. Unfortunately, the Devils couldn't pull through for their beleaguered netminder, and the Canucks scored again for a final time, and took the game 2-1 in regulation.
